Union Country School, Free Union, Va.
Free Union Country School is looking to fulfill its needs including more classrooms, administrative, dedicated art, flexible assembly and play spaces. In the design process we are focusing on some of their strengths in community based activities and connections to the natural environment. We are working with them to provide a new addition that meets these needs while enhancing the school’s connection to the natural context. The design focuses on indoor outdoor spaces/porticos pathways and views from this hilltop campus. The new addition includes a large breezeway gathering area for students, connecting to both the existing campus and the fields beyond. Spaces for community gatherings, day lighting and indoor air quality are all high priorities for the school.
