The coach house, Charlottesville, Va.
The story goes that this historic coach house was first converted to a home by a newlywed couple in the 1920’s. Additions in the 1960’s added a dining room and other spaces. Our work makes this home livable again, while respecting the historic fabric. We updated environmental, electrical and communication systems, insulation, windows and roofs. We opened up the masonry wall between the kitchen, dining and entry spaces to make a conglomeration of many separate space come together and communicate. The owner’s love for the home’s garden inspired us to add a gazebo and a courtyard fountain where he can enjoy his home’s connection to its environment.
